A Note to Parents
I know math can feel intimidating. I try my best to meet students where they are and help them practice just beyond their comfort zone, building skills and confidence step by step. With the right guidance and individual attention, I believe every child can grow in math.
That said, meeting once a week isn’t a magic fix. Concepts start to click during our sessions, but real progress happens through consistent practice at home. I communicate frequently with parents to ensure students get the encouragement and structure they need between lessons. So half is me, the other half is you - the parents.
I work with students who:
Struggle with school math and need extra support
Want guidance with homework and study habits
Feel bored in class and crave more challenge
Need to build fluency — speed and accuracy with basic operations
My Story
My journey as a math tutor began during the COVID-19 pandemic, when my family was living in California. My then–second grader was struggling with distance learning, and almost overnight, I found myself becoming a homeschooler. What began as a temporary fix turned into a year and a half of full-time learning at home.
When I took my son’s education into my own hands, I realized something eye-opening — knowing math and knowing how to teach math to a child are two completely different things! For example, I had memorized my multiplication tables back in second grade in South Korea — but how do you teach that to a child so they truly understand it?
That realization became my true education — learning how to teach. We practiced math every day, just a little at a time. A small droplet of effort each day eventually filled a big bucket of understanding. My child grew tremendously as a learner, and I grew just as much as a teacher. Through that process, I discovered how much I love teaching math and how deeply I care about how children learn.
After our family moved to Connecticut and my two children joined a wonderful school, I took some time to recover from a health challenge. Given a second chance at life, I wanted to do something I was truly passionate about. I began tutoring — first for a neighbor’s child, then a friend’s, then another. Before long, I realized I was building something meaningful. One child at a time, one lesson at a time, my small tutoring efforts had grown into a calling.
Today, I’m proud to introduce myself as a math tutor and STEM instructor, and an endlessly curious learner. I love identifying where students need support, helping them connect ideas, and watching those lightbulb moments when everything clicks.
Parents and students often describe my approach as gentle yet steady — I meet learners where they are, support them from behind, and guide them forward. Many already hold pieces of understanding from school; they just need someone to help connect those pieces into a clear, complete picture. I truly love working with my students and feel grateful for every opportunity to learn and grow alongside them.
I currently tutor math to more than ten students (I’ve lost count!) and teach a Math Olympiad after-school class at ISD. I’m also a STEM instructor, occasionally leading group classes for both adults and children at the Innovation Lab of the Greenwich Library. In addition, I offer math word problem workshops and STEM sessions in small-group and private settings — you can visit the Workshops page to learn more.
Looking ahead, I’m excited to launch the Math Fluency Club, a program designed to help more students build speed, accuracy, and confidence in the four basic operations. I also plan to develop competition-style math courses, as well as high school and SAT math classes.
